Our Mission
We believe that access to green space is a right, not a privilege. Our garden provides affordable plot rentals to community members, fostering connection, biodiversity, and food sovereignty in an urban environment.
Who Are We?
We are a non-profit organization run by volunteers and garden coordinators who are passionate about community and the environment.
Our Garden
The garden features 159 plots of varying sizes, a composting station, shared tools, and seasonal supplies including compost and straw.
Our Values
Connection
We cultivate a sense of calm and simplicity, fostering meaningful connections with ourselves, with each other and with nature. By sharing knowledge, resources and experiences across cultures and generations, we strengthen the bonds that unite us.
Curiosity
We embrace learning and exploration, seeing the garden as a space of discovery. By experimenting and exercising our creativity, we grow our expertise, skills and appreciation for nature.
Kindness
We foster a welcoming and inclusive environment where mutual support, diversity, and accessibility flourish. In caring for our shared space and encouraging acts of generosity, we create a garden rooted in respect and belonging.
Participation
We take initiative and engage in the collective life of the garden. Whether leading workshops, participating in community tasks or mentoring other gardeners, together we build a thriving community where everyone contributes to a common project.
How We're Organized
Jardin Mile End operates under the oversight of the Ville de Montréal and is governed by an elected Board of Directors (Conseil d'Administration) made up of 7 members. Day-to-day coordination is handled by a team of committee coordinators covering Communications, Events, Maintenance, and Compost — each supported by a committee of approximately 35 members.
The garden also benefits from Jardiniers Sages — experienced, knowledgeable members who serve as resources and advisors — as well as specialized volunteer teams: the Équipe Habiles (repairs, construction, landscaping) and the Équipe de Garde (on-call support and interventions).
